Peningkatan Kesadaran Kesehatan Darah dan Skrining Hematologi Dasar untuk Pencegahan Komplikasi Anemia Kronis di Desa Sukodono, Kabupaten Sidoarjo

Chronic anemia is a fundamental public health issue that frequently remains undiagnosed until systemic organ complications emerge. This community service program aimed to enhance blood health awareness and perform early detection of anemia through basic hematological screening in Sukodono Village, Sidoarjo Regency. The implementation method comprised three primary stages: (1) basic hematological screening involving point-of-care testing (POCT) for hemoglobin level, blood pressure, and body mass index (BMI) measurements among 85 productive age and elderly residents; (2) interactive blood health education covering anemia etiology, blood bank technology roles, and internal medicine complication prevention; and (3) individual medical counseling, iron supplement distribution, and primary healthcare referral. Program evaluation was conducted by comparing pre-test and post-test scores along with hemoglobin level profiles. Results demonstrated a significant increase in average participant knowledge from 54.2% (poor category) to 92.6% (good category). Hematological screening identified 24 participants (28.2%) with anemia, comprising 16 cases (18.8%) of mild anemia and 8 cases (9.4%) of moderate anemia. Identified individuals received targeted nutritional counseling and healthcare referral. This initiative proved effective in early detection of blood disorders and strengthening community vigilance against chronic anemia complications.
