Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic health problem requiring early detection, regular blood pressure monitoring, medication adherence, lifestyle modification, and sustained community support. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and self-management in hypertension control while strengthening health cadres’ capacity through education, acupressure, and acupuncture as complementary interventions. The activity employed a participatory, promotive, preventive, and applied approach in Bibis Luhur RW XXII, Nusukan, Banjarsari, Surakarta, involving individuals with hypertension, families, health cadres, and community members. Activities included problem identification, health education, screening and blood pressure measurement, acupuncture services, and cadre training on early detection, relaxation techniques, and simple acupressure. A total of 51 participants received the service. Mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 146.1 to 137.1 mmHg, while mean diastolic blood pressure decreased from 86.5 to 82.1 mmHg, with statistically significant differences (p<0.001 and p=0.002, respectively). Forty-eight participants (94.1%) reported improved or reduced symptoms, while the mean health cadre knowledge score increased from 7.07 to 8.60 (21.7%). These findings indicate that community empowerment through strengthening health cadre capacity and providing acupuncture-acupressure services may support complementary and sustainable hypertension control.
